Meet the chefs
Chef Shruti Patel
Chef Shruti Patel grew up in an eclectic food environment, with a strong footing in traditional Indian cuisine, peppered with Spanish influences. From her earliest memories of picking fresh produce to hosting dinner parties for friends and family, food has been the focal point of her upbringing and heritage.
After culinary school, Shruti got her start in catering with companies like Patina. She ran the kitchen at Tres LA boutique catering and worked under award-winning chefs at Carmelized, the Animal Restaurant Group’s catering arm. In 2017, she launched her own catering ventures, designed to give back and share her love of great food and exceptional experiences.
Chef Wendy Zeng
Born in the city of Chengdu, China, chef Wendy Zeng spent her formative years training in her grandfather’s kitchen. Immersed in the flavors and techniques of the Sichuan Province, Wendy mastered the intricacies of the region’s diverse cuisine. At the age of 10, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she discovered Southern BBQ and soul food. She realized that, similar to Sichuan cuisine, Southern food is about family, history, and the dishes that bring us together.
Her culinary style weaves together the flavors and techniques of her familial roots with LA’s local influences. As the host of thematic pop-ups and cannabis-infused supper clubs, she brings the values of her childhood to every table, fostering community among cannabis and food lovers alike.
Chef Jose Vazquez
Chef Jose Vazquez started his culinary career in the U.S. Navy. His adventures cooking on submarines and eating his way across the globe led him to culinary school. After years in the restaurant industry, he landed the role of Executive Chef of Catering for Caramelized, the Animal Restaurant Group’s catering arm.
Jose gained invaluable skills working under James Beard recipients Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo and worked with a host of notable chefs, including 2-Star Michelin Chef Josiah Citrin of Melisse. Always up for a challenge, he teamed up with Chef Shruti to compete on the Cooking Channel’s Farmer's Market Flip and won! Born and raised in East LA, Jose is committed to true local sourcing, working directly with small businesses and giving back to the community.
